Dim string lights lit Fair Market Friday night for Fashion X Austin: BLANC, a one-night fashion extravaganza that consisted of live fashion performances from eight Texas designers and some early “holiday shopping.” Attendees kept it simple in black and white as they sipped their free San Pellegrinos and nibbled on Luna Bars, perusing the wares of over 40 local vendors before the show.

The chatter quieted as the show began, models strutting down the stage to remixed versions of hit songs like Adele’s “Hello” and, of course, Drake’s “Hotline Bling.” Rare Trends’ edgy outfits showcasing bold patterns and their signature fringe were the first to take the stage. White and gold ensembles with pops of color were up next in a line of bridal couture designs by Adrienne Yunger. Wildflowers Boutique toned down the high fashion feel with more everyday and casual looks, their pieces more wearable for a day in the city. Next on the runway was MVCC Design’s unique ensembles, followed by SoLa’s dark, bold looks. Mysterious N.P.N’s navy blue, emerald green and gold gowns closed the runway portion of the show.
The Bernina Blanc Design Challenge concluded the evening. As part of the challenge, 59 designers entered sketches of their designs, using primarily white fabrics, inspired by the Swiss Alps. After rounds of elimination, fan voting and a panel of nine judges, 12 finalists presented their completed designs on the runway. Venny Etienne’s white neoprene and poly-blend ensemble was announced the Fan Favorite winner, taking home a brand new Bernina 1300 MDC Serger and Cover sewing machine. Neil Marek’s cream chiffon and cotton cutout jumpsuit design took the grand prize — a brand new Bernina 1300 MDC Serger and Coverstitch sewing machine, Fashion Business Accelerator 360 Online courses and a full service package by Trunkist to produce the winning garment.
