While you’re taking a break from going to concert after concert at ACL, take a moment to check out ACL’s 2016 Art Market. The market consists of 15 unique local businesses that sell anything from sustainable living and clothing options to custom made electric guitars. While ACL tends to focus on mainstream, well-known artists and businesses, the Art Market does its best to highlight Austin’s local talent and craftsmanship. Here are a few featured shops worth checking out:
Story by Imani Sebri
Blue Lux
Blue Lux is a locally owned, environmentally-conscious boutique that adds a little Austin flare to their products. Blue Lux operates on the central idea that we are in control of minimizing our carbon footprint. Consisting of various vendors who contribute to the store, the business has a very DIY, au naturale feel about it. They strive to be an example of how you can be fashionable, socially conscious and environmentally friendly, and still catch a bargain.
Moniker Guitars
It’s no surprise that in the live music capital of the world, there’s a unique establishment where you can customize your ideal guitar. At Moniker Guitar, you’re able to personalize the shape, color and even hand orientation of the guitar. Moniker Guitar has an impressive track record as well; it has designed and supplied guitars to artists such as Matt Noveskey of Blue October and Spencer Trent of The Mowgli’s.
Greg Davis, National Geographic Creative
Renowned international photographer Greg Davis will be making an appearance at the Art Market as well. His work centers around the preservation and respect of traditional cultures around the world. His portfolio is made up of eye-catching photos of indigenous peoples displaying their cultures proudly. Davis’s work has been featured in the Georgetown Art Center, The International Art Expo in New York City and Art City Austin.
Teysha
This fusion of the Americas hopes to cultivate a sense of authentic expression through the appreciation of Central American textiles. From boots to belts, these items are made by hand with the expertise of Guatemalan locals. Teysha prides themselves on cultivating a mutual bond between communities that are thousands of miles apart and looks forward to keeping Austin unique through their collections.
