On Friday, September 12, the LBJ Presidential Library lit up with socialites, designers and fashion for “MOD: A Modern Take on ‘60s Fashion.” In partnership with Launch787, The LBJ Library hosted the event to complement its “Sixty from the ’60s” exhibit. Austin designers Daniel Esquivel, Ross Bennett, Crowned Bird, Gail Chovan, Boudoir Queen, Amber Perley and Rare Trends brought Lady Bird Johnson’s evening wear back to life with modern looks based on her time in the White House.
Bustling with colorful finger food and endless cocktails, MOD’s setup featured tables covered with copper-colored sequins and accents of handpicked roses. To set the atmosphere, projectors played old fashion show tapes behind the two platform stages. The lights were dim and warm, allowing the models onstage to steal the show with designers’ new, custom looks. The show’s inspiration, Lady Bird Johnson’s original outfits, were on display, as well.
