The first annual Sound on Sound Music Festival took place this past weekend in McDade, Texas’ Sherwood Forest. The lineup of up-and-coming artists not only delivered incredible performances through the rain and sunshine, but also pushed the envelope in terms of their attire. ORANGE picked five performers who had the best looks at SOS; from bomb-ass bomber jackets to eye-catching boots, these artists chose original and eclectic outfits that left us quite impressed.

DENZEL CURRY
The Florida native rapper partied hard with his psychedelic beats and fast-paced lyrics, but his style was what really stood out in his performance. With a signature haircut, Curry distinguished himself on stage amongst his rap crew. Dressed in black heat to toe, the rapper completed his look with an on-trend patchwork black bomber jacket.
EMPRESS OF
The solo performer Empress Of, also known as Lorely Rodriguez, ruled with her performance outfit. Already a sight while singing, drumming and playing the keyboard, Rodriguez was truly a spectacle in her athletic sport coat over her completely white garments. A notable piece was her tennis skirt, which she styled in a way that made it more fashionable than athletic looking.
PHANTOGRAM
Sarah Barthel of the New York-based music duo slayed in an entirely black provocative outfit. Even with a long sleeve crop top, high waisted belt, gartered shorts and high boots, Barthel still stole the show with her incredible vocals, which left the audience begging for more after the band’s set completed Friday night.
PURITY RING
As a band famous for their rave-worthy beats and groundbreaking light show, Purity Ring did not fall short in incorporating an awe-inspiring style into their production. Megan James of the Canadian electronic pop duo sported an outfit worthy of a futuristic goddess, noting her golden belt over a floor length gown topped with a see-through plastic-like jacket. Not pictured, Corin Roddick on instrumentals matched James’ style ambition with a metallic-looking black and grey vest.
SMALL BLACK
The Brooklyn-based indie band rocked casual clothing during their daytime set, but bassist Juan Pieczanski wore an stand-out t-shirt. His shirt featured the figure of a naked woman with her chest covered by see-through hands. An interesting choice, the look clearly encompassed with still of the band, which is often described as “chillwave.”
