From cupcakes to croissants, here are the the best homemade treats from Austin’s cutest made-from-scratch bakeries.

Tiny Pies
As the self-proclaimed home of the original miniature pie, Tiny Pies has been an Austin favorite since its opening in 2011. The mother-daughter baking duo has given the city some of its most tasty bites, all made with fresh fruit and local ingredients. The cherry tiny pie, which is highly recommended by the staff, is made with locally-sourced cherries.
Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop
Delicious sweet treats and a cute retro setting made Sugar Mama’s one of the city’s go-to spots. While the shop offers a mix of cakes and cookies, the most delicious treat is one of its homemade cupcakes. Flavors range from traditional, like the Mud Pie or Cookies ‘n Cream, to quirky, like key lime Hemingway or the sweet and spicy Frida. But the most requested cupcake, the French Toast, is by far the bakery’s most interesting treat. The maple cinnamon chip cupcake is completed with a cinnamon cream cheese frosting and strip of bacon.
My Sweet Austin
This made-from-scratch bakery is the perfect place for a midday treat. My Sweet Austin is right in the middle of West Campus. While this bakery’s specialty is its custom cakes, the giant cookie ice cream sandwich is the star of the show. Two thick, homemade cookies are filled with gooey chocolate mousse and fresh ice cream, making this a treat for any chocolate addict.
Upper Crust Bakery
While most bakers take weeks to formulate and perfect pastry recipes, the idea for Upper Crust’s popular cinnamon roll came to the owner on a whim. Stephanie, one of the two founding sisters of Upper Crust, noticed one day the shop was wasting perfectly good croissant trimmings. She decided the dough scraps could be put to good use. Thus, the much-loved Upper Crust cinnamon roll was born. Flaky, buttery croissant dough mixed with the sweet crust of cinnamon sugar makes this pastry one of Upper Crust Bakery’s biggest hits.
