Stepping into Brentwood Social House feels like entering your neighbor’s home, but only if your neighbor knows how to whip up delicious English pastries, quiches and fresh brewed coffee. True to its name, Brentwood Social House is a quaint cafe nestled in a large renovated house off of W. Koenig Lane.

The concept for Brentwood Social House began when the owners, Suzanne Daniels and Sarah Olano, realized they shared the same dream of opening up a family-friendly neighborhood tea- and coffee-house. After raising $53,000 through a Kickstarter campaign in summer of 2016, Brentwood Social House was born.
Both Daniels and Olano live in the Brentwood neighborhood. Daniels handles the corporate responsibilities that come with running a cafe, while Olano does all of the baking. Daniels has lived in Brentwood with her husband and daughter since 2012, and has expertise in graphic design and marketing. Olano, on the other hand, specializes in English and French Cuisine as an experienced baker from England.
A building that was originally a clothing boutique, Daniels and Olano renovated the space to fit their needs as a cozy, family-focused cafe. Brentwood Social House features a main area with tables and comfortable sofas, a quiet room with outlets for studying, a kid-friendly room with games, and a private dining room that can be used for events. The comfortable environment lends itself as the perfect atmosphere for studying or relaxing with friends.
Every other Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m., Brentwood Social House hosts a multi-course afternoon tea with pastries, sandwiches and unlimited pots of tea. Although the cost of $34 per person might seem steep, the food is delicious and the experience is pleasant and charming. A sampling of the menu includes scones with clotted cream, curried chicken finger sandwiches, and vanilla shortbread cake. New customer and tea lover, Meredith Weaver shared her opinion of the gathering. “Sipping tea at Brentwood Social House took me back to being at my grandma’s house with the fine china and tasty delicate sandwiches,” Weaver says.
Whether you are looking for a quiet place to study and sip a cappuccino or for somewhere to relax on a lazy afternoon with finger sandwiches and tea, Brentwood Social House fits the bill.
