ORANGE Magazine got in touch with Mélat to discuss her current thoughts and future plans as an up-and-coming musician.
What’s your most treasured article of clothing?
Mélat: Not necessarily an article of clothing, but I have this old purse my Grandma Hanna used to always use. When I found it, I loved how it still smelled like her perfume. Now I keep a bunch of my old journals in there and they all have picked up the smell.
What film or book series have you seen or read multiple times?
Mélat: Harry Potter! I have all the movies and every book, only hard covers though. Don’t try to talk to me if I’m watching one of the millions of marathons they have on TV. I’ll likely be reciting the lines.
What color is your music?
Mélat: Most songs are a gradient swirl of indigo and violet, but some of the more lovey ones are a gradient swirl of soft pink, white and a deep pink.
Are you more of a coffee or tea kind of person?
Mélat: Coffee. Always.
Do you have any pets?
Mélat: I have a black cat named Snow, after Jon Snow. And he truly knows nothing.
What are you excited about right now?
Mélat: Getting the honor of playing and attending my very first ACL. Being a native Austinite, this is a moment I won’t ever forget.
If you were a kitchen appliance, what would you be and why?
Mélat: A can opener. So simple yet so complex and completely crucial. Have you ever tried to open a can without a can opener?
