Many companies have began incorporating 3-D printing into their designs, a process that has recently paved its way for the world of fashion. More and more designers have started to include wearable technology into their shows, and a lot of this is done through the 3-D printing process using various materials.
Turkish designer Hussein Chalayan is one of the many fashion innovators who has implemented wearable technology into his designs and is inspiring others through his products. In Chalayan’s Spring/Summer 2017 show, he accessorized models with glasses and belts that gathered and computed data. The glasses could pick up certain senses such as stress and fear, while the belts projected these emotions simultaneously. Chalayan’s use of electronics in high fashion is just one of the many ways in which designers are pushing the boundaries of the industry.
With technological developments come better environmental practices, as designers and manufacturers are able to create influential products that are also natural and sustainable. With fashion as the second largest polluter after oil, sustainability has been a major concern for many consumers, manufacturers and businesses.
Fashion made from food is a relatively new idea coined by German microbiology student Anke Domaske. Using natural fabric made from milk, coffee and tea, Domaske has transformed the future of textile sustainability in an unusual manner.
These changes could mean a lot for the future of fashion. Sure, the versatility and aesthetics are exciting to watch, but what is so enticing is the possibility of even more future collaborations between the tech world and the fashion industry. These new advancements could mean changes and assistance for those with disabilities, veterans and more. Technology is the future of fashion, and industry professionals as well as consumers are excited to see what the future has in store.
