From croissants to coq au vin, the French have quite the repertoire in the kitchen and arguably their food is the crème de la crème.
However, Texans cannot help but put their own southern spin on the French classics – after all, they’re set on making everything bigger and better in the heart of the South. Here’s a Texan take on a French staple, the croque madame, with some unique southern flair. Bon appétit!
Ingredients
- 2 slices Texas toast
- 3 slices ham
- 2 to 3 slices brie
- ½ tbsp. mayonnaise
- ¼ tbsp. dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp. butter
- 1 Texas peach
Instructions
- Butter one side of each slice of Texas toast.
- Coat the other side lightly with mayonnaise and Dijon mustard.
- Cut a peach into very thin slices.
- Layer the ham, brie and peaches onto the Texas toast on the side with the mayonnaise and mustard.
- Heat a skillet to medium high and place the sandwich inside, butter side down.
- Use a spatula and add a little pressure to the top of the sandwich. Do this until the bottom slice of bread is golden brown. Flip over using the spatula and repeat on the other side.
- Grill the sandwich until both sides are lightly browned and the brie and peaches have softened, often melting over the edges of the sandwich.
- Enjoy!
