Summer is fast approaching and with that comes the deluge of movies that everyone’s been waiting for. Most are remakes or sequels of films we already loved, but that doesn’t mean they won’t be just as iconic as their predecessors. Already hyped? Here are four different playlists inspired by movie blockbusters coming to the big screen soon.
Story by Lauren Cook
Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25)
Solo: A Star Wars Story is a film following Han Solo’s life before the original trilogy. The first original Star Wars movie was released in 1977, so naturally this playlist features songs that encapsulate some of the most popular sounds and genres of the era that is Star Wars. So close your eyes, settle in and get ready for a playlist seamlessly curated to fit a rocky ride in the millenium falcon with Han and Chewie.
Ocean’s 8 (June 8)
Ocean’s 8 is the all-star female cast everyone’s been dreaming of. This playlist is comprised mainly of badass women artists who the Ocean team could listen to while carrying out the biggest heist of the year. BBHMM by Rihanna could have never fit more perfectly into one playlist.
The First Purge (July 4)
The Purge franchise is back again for another installment. The movie slated for release on the very fitting July 4th will focus on America’s very first purge. With a promotional poster featuring a red baseball cap the world now associates with America’s infamous 45th president, it’s clear that the movie won’t shy away from drawing parallels to the reality America faces today. This playlist features all-American artists expressing the good, bad and ugly of the country we call home.
Ready Player One (March 30)
While this is technically not a summer release, this movie will definitely captivate audiences for a very long time. The Steven Spielberg directed film, is considered to be one of the trailblazers in making summer blockbuster movies a popular Hollywood trend (i.e. Jaws), so it would have been a shame to not have it as an honorable mention. The movie is chock-filled with retro references that will sure to pull out nostalgic feelings in those who appreciate old arcade culture. This playlist focuses on a mix of both the old and new sounds of electronica and synthpop.
Happy movie watching!
