At the center of blue-eyed soul, dance music, rock, pop and disco, you will find Chromeo. On April 17, the two-man band from Montreal, Canada performed at Stubb’s.

Chromeo emerged in 2002 with a new kind of electronic music that mixed multiple genres to create electro-funk. David “Dave 1” Macklovitch plays the guitar and provides the lead vocals and Patrick “P-Thugg” Gemayel is on keyboards, synthesizers, bass guitar and talk box. Together, the two create disco music with a twist that makes it sound futuristic. Chromeo has released five albums, including the world’s smallest album, which consists of 55 songs in 183 seconds and was created for Nokia phone users. The group has won five awards for their music and toured to multiple festivals such as Bonnaroo and Austin City Limits in 2011 and 2014.
Before Chromeo came out on stage at Stubb’s, the crowd eagerly chanted “Chromeeeeeeeo” in unison. The pair had their instruments set up on opposite sides of the stage, including P-Thugg’s famous keyboard with silver legs coming out of the bottom. As soon as the duo walked out, the crowd’s mood shifted to excitement while Dave 1 walked around the stage playing his guitar. P-Thugg took the stage wearing pants and nothing but a leather vest on top as he jammed on his electronic keyboard and added vocals with his talk box. Although P-Thugg could not walk around the stage like Dave 1, his energy level was just as high as he sang along with the crowd.
With a packed house and fans dressed in disco clothing, the masters of funk did it again.
