The twenty-somethings that filled Mohawk’s on April 6 were ready for an evening of dancing and groovin’ but they got much more. The California alternative-indie band HUNNY gave the audience a night to remember, filled with stage dives, bloody noses and lots of beer.

The evening opened up with Fringe, a Los Angeles based alternative-indie rock band. As they played their 30 minute set, the audience quickly fell for their Californian charm. The ever-so- cool band members were very interactive with the crowd. The lead singer informed the audience that they would be hanging out by the merch tables after the show and for the low price of one dollar, they could touch guitar player, Preston Bell’s mustache. A young woman in the front row, quickly held up a dollar to touch the beauty that was his mustache.
Next up to the stage was Made Violent, a rock band from New York. As they took the stage, lead singer Jason Yarger was spotted walking around, sipping on Lone Star beer. A few super fans quickly ran to the bathroom to compose themselves before approaching the slightly intoxicated singer. While Made Violent was jammin’ out, Yarger brought drummer, Justin Acee a beer. Acee, covered in rock ‘n roll sweat continued to play with the biggest, most contagious smile. As they ended their last song, Acee, high off the evening’s energy, attempted to crowd surf but soon fell to the ground between audience members.
Finally, it was time to get down and dirty with HUNNY. The crowd cheered as the band, each member sporting a yellow cowboy hat, walked on stage. They started off with “Gilding the Lily” from their “Windows I” EP. The floor shook as the crowded danced and the walls vibrated with the screaming lyrics of fans. A few female crowd members screamed some pretty suggestive comments to the bass player, Kevin Grimmett.
They later played a few new songs between crowd favorites like “Cry For Me” and “Vowels (And the Importance of Being Me),” and the audience went insane. Yarger tripped on stage quite a few times, blaming his clumsiness on his indulgence of Lone Star that night.
HUNNY announced their last song, as they began to play “Televised.” Halfway into the song, the band started to trickle off as Yarger stood on stage holding up a finger. The crowd begged for more music and Yarger started singing “Parking Lot” while the audience sang background. As the band merged back into the song “Televised,” the night came to a close.
Thanking the audience of Mohawk’s for the evening, Yarger attempted a stage dive. Like Acee, he fell to the floor, bringing fans down with him. As they got back to their feet, a girl was spotted with a bloody nose from the collision, perfectly accessorized with the biggest smile.
Yarger made his way back to the stage making sure everyone was alright. “Expect the unexpected Austin,” Yarger said as he exited the stage, leaving behind an eventful night.
