King Krule hit the stage at Emo’s on a Tuesday night in April.

As the crowd anxiously awaited King Krule’s appearance on stage, the opening act, Kelsey Lu, walked out on stage by herself, accompanied only by a cello. A hush fell over the crowd as Lu began to sing and sweetly pluck at the strings of her cello. For all six of her songs, not a word was spoken as concert-goers were drenched in her angelic voice. After finishing her last song, the crowd erupted into stunned cheers.
Most concert-goers weren’t sure what to expect of the King Krule opener before the set began, but everyone was pleasantly surprised by the change in pace Brooklyn-based singer Lu brought to the evening.
Later in the evening, English musician King Krule, also known as Archy Marshall, graced the stage with his iconic red hair, thin stature, and surprisingly deep voice. Armed with a full band, King Krule played a mixture of old and new songs off his recent album “The Ooz” that was released in October 2017. Though an indoors concert, the distinct smell of marijuana, unsurprisingly, filled the air. The crowd ebbed and flowed with the red-headed, punk-jazz artist, slowly becoming more energized throughout the evening, leading to a massive mosh pit towards the end.
King Krule hit Austin and he did not disappoint.
