The Spring Break forecast is that perfect mix of heat with a breeze — right before the scorching Texas summer takes hold. So while we’re still battling a pandemic in the midst of this beautiful weather, why not go eat out?
Austin is known for its food trucks, and even more so for its food inclusivity. So this time around, if you’re looking for the perfect way to eat vegan while being socially distanced and enjoying this beautiful weather, here are a few of the best vegan food trucks in Austin.
1. Arlo’s Curbside Kitchen
Arlo’s has the best greasy vegan cheeseburger on the market. The to-go bag has those familiar grease marks that you see on a fast food bag like McDonald’s or Five Guys, which makes the prospect of digging into it all the more exciting.
These burgers, from my own experience, are amazing from start to finish.. They offer that greasy, fast-food vibe with amazing flavor. The wait time for an order is about average- anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes – and like all food trucks, it’s a little pricey. But it’s definitely the place to go if you’re ever in the mood for an old-fashioned vegan burger. Of course, Arlo’s has more to offer than just that, so if you’d like to take a look at the full extent of their yummy, vegan menu, check it out here.
Located right next to Spiderhouse Cafe North of campus, it’s the perfect nearby meal for any time in the week.
2. The Vegan Nom
When it comes to tacos, The Vegan Nom offers a refreshing authentic vibe to their vegan tacos. The taco trio from the late night menu is one of my favorites, and they have a bunch of different protein options so every taco can be different. They also have a day menu for breakfast, classic, and signature tacos, so no matter what time you go you’re guaranteed a variety of amazing food.
It’s not quite the short walk away that Arlo’s is. Instead, it’s over in South Austin around East Caesar Chavez. Still, though, it’s definitely worth the journey out for a delicious meal.
(Bonus: There’s a vegan ice cream truck right next door)
3. Conscious Cravings
Conscious Cravings is the place to go for a lighter meal that will leave you satiated without that bloated feeling. It’s fresh, healthy food that’s reasonably priced and doesn’t take long between the order and the delivery.
Every time I have eaten at this truck, it has offered up some of the best wraps I have ever had. This place has flavor down, and definitely fits into a healthy lifestyle.
Conscious is East of campus, and once again is a bit farther out. But it’s definitely worth it to go sit out at one of their picnic tables on a beautiful day in spring.
Whether you’re a vegan, vegetarian, or omnivore, I recommend all three places as a great Spring Break experience with friends. With the breeze in your face, and the outdoor picnic seating keeping everyone safe, there’s no going wrong with one of these food trucks.
They all gratify the foodie spirit in various ways, and offer diversified menus that are not only mouth-watering, but also perfect to enjoy while you take a much-needed break from the chaos of the year.
