Tina Fey and Robert Carlock’s latest creation, the Netflix-series “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” spread like wildfire during its inaugural 13-episode season, which was available for streaming on March 6.

Following the life of Kimmy Schmidt, played by Ellie Kemper, a woman rescued from an underground bunker where she has been held captive for the past fifteen years in a doomsday cult, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” is not only hilarious, but teaches strong, relatable life lessons. With a flamboyant, aspiring actor as her roommate, an over-the-top, high society wife as her boss and a love triangle between a billionaire and a fellow GED classmate, Kimmy’s adventures allow us to learn things from a different perspective.
Here are ten lessons I learned from the first season of “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.”
10. Going from a small town (or in Kimmy’s case a bunker) to big city can be be scary, but it can also be fun.
9. Though being stuck in a bunker for fifteen years puts you behind in pop culture, 8th grade comebacks still work like a charm against the teenage angst of your boss’ daughter.
8. No matter how good your voice may be, Boyz II Men’s “I’ll Make Love to You” is never appropriate to belt in public.
7. Having an obsession with a pre-teen book series pays off when you are able to call someone’s bluff like a charm.
6. The concept of Febreeze is grosser than we all realize.
5. Keep your cool, and never admit embarrassment.
4. A midlife crisis is a real problem, but don’t dwell on what you haven’t accomplished yet. Instead of being ashamed of who you are, own it.
3. Music videos only require three things: a cameraman, words that rhyme and a great ringtone.
2. Whether it’s wearing a pin-striped suit or holding three girls captive for 15 years, Jon Hamm will always be a MAD man.
1. Anything Tina Fey touches turns to gold.
“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” is officially running for a second season, so grab a laptop, open Netflix and take in more life lessons from Kimmy and her friends.
