If there’s one food that never goes out of style, it’s pizza. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite between classes or fulfilling a late-night craving, Austin has no shortage of delicious options. Here’s my breakdown of three pizza spots, one for every budget, that each bring their own flair to the table.
$1 Pizza Slices: Dollar Slice
Location: Guadalupe Street
Known for: Late-night cravings, broke student eats and pure happiness (especially if you’re a little tipsy or just really, really hungry).
Their $1 pizza slices mark Dollar Slice as a true student staple. This deal is only available to members, but can pay for itself if you’re a regular. Located on Guadalupe Street, the vibe is laidback. There’s music playing all the time, and the slices come out fast. It’s perfect between classes, after that long walk home when you don’t want to cook anything or after Friday nights out on the town.
What you get: A hot, thin-crust New York-style slice– cheesy and strangely satisfying. It’s not trying to be fancy and that’s why it succeeds in curbing cravings. The Bianca: White Pizza slice is my order of choice simply because of its garlic taste and white cheese. Not a fan of garlic? No problem, you still have options like pepperoni, veggie, barbecue chicken and even vegan slices. Quality can be a little inconsistent depending on how long the pie has been under the heat lamp, but when they’re fresh and the time is right, these slices hit the spot. It’s not a nice sit-down pizzeria, it’s not Instagram-aesthetic and your paper plate might be a little flimsy, but if you’re running on a tight budget and want something quick and satisfying, Dollar Slice delivers. To me, it’s comfort food, and sometimes that’s all you need.
$20 Whole Pizza: Home Slice Pizza
Location: Multiple but my favorite one is on South Congress.
Known for: Classic pizza lovers, cozy date nights, family outings and “I deserve this greasy meal for dinner” gatherings.
Home Slice isn’t just a pizza place, it’s an Austin staple. It has served iconic New York-style pies since 2005. With its walk-up window for quick grabs and a cozy sit-down area for slower meals, it’s perfect for everything from spontaneous hangouts to “I made it through the week” victory dinners.
What you get: My classic order is a medium margherita pizza (fresh basil, mozzarella and that signature tomato sauce) coupled with their irresistible garlic knots to share with a friend. Everything here feels crafted with care and love. The dough has that perfect chew. The sauce tastes like it was simmered all day and the staff are friendly in that very Austin, very casual way.
Whether you’re catching up with someone you haven’t seen in a while, or just need a hot slice of comfort food after a long day, Home Slice never disappoints. A little greasy, a lot delicious and totally worth it.
$30 Whole Pizza: AllDay Pizza
Location: Multiple locations, but I like Tarrytown’s vibe the most.
Known for: Its cute aesthetic and pizza that makes you feel fancy and full.
Let me just say: Allday Pizza in Tarrytown is that spot. I’ve lived in Austin for 13 years but have only recently discovered this place. I can’t stop thinking about it. Out of all the pizza places I’ve tried in Austin, this one has become my favorite. It’s elevated but casual. It’s cute enough for a date night, but chill enough for a slice with friends. The indoor space is cozy and the outdoor patio is perfect for soaking up the sunshine on a nice day, which Austin has most of the time. Bonus points for sharing space with Flo’s Wine Bar. You can sip, chat and enjoy an amazing meal at the same time.
What you get: The Sampler is 100% the move here. For around $28, you can use their “buy five slices, get one free” deal where you can choose to get six different slices (yes, six!!) from their specialty menu and honestly, every single one is unique and delicious. This is perfect for when everyone in your group has different preferences, or you just can’t decide which flavor to get. My personal standouts? The pickle pizza (weirdly amazing with the combination of ranch, dill, and fried pickle), the spicy margarita (Calabrian chili, fresh basil, and a punchy red sauce) and I had to mention their stracciatella — creamy, dreamy, unforgettable. This place doesn’t just make pizza — they remix it. They take simple flavors and twist them into something unique without being over the top.
If you’re looking for a pizza place with great food and great vibes, Allday is the one. If you’re anything like me and just so happen to be at the Hyde Park location, you’ll probably end up getting a cookie or a swirl of soft serve on the way out.
No matter your budget, there’s a slice of pizza out there with your name on it. Whether you’re tapping your last dollar for a greasy slice at 1 a.m., driving a little farther for something trendy and delicious or sitting down at a beloved classic, these places remind me why I love eating my way through Austin.
