Goodbye winter and hello spring! With warmer weather around the corner comes a complete beauty regime makeover. The transition from darker hues to warmer colors necessitates a makeup bag spring-cleaning. ORANGE sat down with YouTube beauty vlogger and UT student Dani Austin to find out what she recommends for the arrival of spring.

With over 88,000 YouTube subscribers and 2 million views on her channel, Austin offers everything from beauty tips to advice on how to get through college. “Makeup and beauty products are so much fun to play with, and I love how they can bring out someone’s favorite attributes about themselves,” Austin says.
Austin provides beauty tips and tricks on the sometimes-difficult transition from winter to spring. She tells us that her best beauty advice would be “to smile, be yourself and be confident in who you are.”
ORANGE: Which products do you use in the winter?
AUSTIN: In the winter I tend to not take care of my skin as much because if I’m not wearing shorts and tanks, then who sees it anyway? Winter weather usually leads me to dry skin, frizzy hair, and chapped lips. As a result, Lush’s Mint Julips Lip Scrub, First Aid Beauty’s Instant Renewal Lotion, and Agave’s Oil Hair Treatment have been some of my winter must-haves.
ORANGE: Which products do you leave behind and substitute in the spring?
AUSTIN: In the spring, instead of lathering up on lotion, I love using body oils, like Moroccan Oil’s “Instant Radiance” Shimmering Body Oil, to give my skin an extra glow. I also tend to switch from matte lip tints and eye shadows to shimmery lip glosses and shadows. Some of my favorites at the moment are Jouer’s Moisturizing Lip Gloss and Urban Decay’s Naked 3 Palette with beautiful shades of neutrals and pinks.
ORANGE: What are some key elements you consider when choosing your makeup for spring?
AUSTIN: In the spring, I like to keep my makeup looking natural and play with color. That being said, if I decide to use a “pop of color” on my eyes, with a green eye shadow or colored eyeliner, I keep everything from my blush to my lip color fairly natural. If I use a bright lip color, I use neutral shades for my eyes and cheeks. It’s important that the colors don’t compete. In the spring, I like to have fun with color, but more importantly, I like to keep makeup looking fresh and natural!
ORANGE: What kind of changes do you make to your daily routine when the weather starts to warm up?
AUSTIN: I start to focus a little more on the healthy, overall aspects of my life! I like to start going to bed a little earlier to enjoy morning runs. I like to start eating more fruits and vegetables to keep up my energy and feel good all day. I also start to spend more time in the sun and be active outside. Spending time outside helps me so much with stress! There is something about spending time outside and just relaxing that is so fulfilling to me.
ORANGE: What is a beauty product necessity for this season?
AUSTIN: A bright blush focused on the centers of your cheeks. This creates a more youthful look. I like Tarte’s Amazonian clay 12-hour blush in “Dollface.“
ORANGE: Do you use a lighter foundation in the spring?
AUSTIN: Nope! I use a darker one, because naturally I am a little bit tanner. I am not a huge fan of liquid foundations, though. There are a few I like, but on a daily basis I wear Bare Mineral’s Original Foundation. Honestly, I like it because it is a lot faster to use and still has great coverage.
ORANGE: Which makeup brand is a go-to for you?
AUSTIN: Bare Minerals. Bare Minerals was my first makeup brand to use and now that I have tried so many different products and brands, I can still say they are my favorite. I really love the company. I must say Jouer Cosmetics is right behind them!
