The last couple of weeks has been tough for anyone impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. While practicing social distancing and self-isolation, I’ve basically gone down every list of activities there is to do at my house. I’ve played board games with my parents, caught up on my books that were collecting dust on my bookshelves, watered my plants and finished every episode of Love is Blind while simultaneously losing my mind over the contestants.
However, if you’re anything like me, you’ve also spent hours scrolling through social media and exhausted every feed on Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter. Through moments of desperation and loneliness, I gave in and finally downloaded TikTok. What I found on my ‘For You Page’, which is your own personalized feed adjusted to what videos and topics you like, was endlessly humorous fifteen to thirty-second videos. Though, one trend I saw particularly popular on the app was dances, which were mostly short and quick dances that are paired with songs.
While I cannot confirm or deny I’ve attempted to do some of them, I was pleased I had found another activity to do that can keep you active and entertained. Here are some of the most popular ones you can try out! (And if you have your own e-boy LED lights, even better.)
- “Savage” By Megan Thee Stallion
This dance was inspired by rapper and artist Megan Thee Stallion, whose chorus goes: “Classy, bougie, ratchet (yeah), sassy, moody, nasty (hey, hey, yeah)”. With this chorus, the dance begins with a ‘Woah’ and progresses throughout the chorus. Tiktok Creator @keke.janajah is credited with coming up with this dance.
2. “Say So” By Doja Cat
This dance has been by far the most explosive on the app. Tiktok creator @yodelinghaley choreographed the dance and has since gone viral with more than nineteen million replays. Even actors and dancers such as Mackenzie Ziegler and Skai Jackson have filmed themselves doing it. Because of the dance’s virality, Doja Cat, the singer of the song, even included the dance in the song’s music video, and cameoed the dance’s creator Haley in it.
3. The Renegade
If you haven’t seen the Renegade on other social media apps, then you’re definitely going to see it on its home app, Tik Tok. This dance has basically launched Tik Tok into the international popularity we see today, as millions of creators have participated in it. The renegade consists of a woah, clap, figure eight, and wave. This dance was created by just one fourteen-year-old creator named Jalaiah Harmon, who because of the dance’s popularity, has been on the NBA and the Ellen Show.
