Yik Yak Invades Campus

April 14, 2014

A new controversial and addicting social media app has rapidly emerged across high schools and college campuses. Yik Yak, released in November, already has hundreds of thousands of users. Simply put, the app offers a completely anonymous forum where users can post whatever is on their minds. Using GPS location services, Yik Yak provides a live feed of what the people around users are posting. Essentially, the app functions like Twitter, but with a twist: People can say anything they want without tacking their handle to the post.

The debate covered topics of economy, education, healthcare and immigration. Overall, the deliberation was a success; a full house packed the Texas Union Theatre, and debaters led substantial arguments with interesting viewpoints. The real action, however, took place on the live Twitter feed rolling in the front of the room with the hashtag #UTdebate. Many questions were posed by the audience, and some brawls even broke out among select handles.

The New Faces of Late Night and The Tonight Show

March 24, 2014

The past two months marked hellos and goodbyes for Late Night on NBC.

America said farewell to Jay Leno, a name that has been married to The Tonight Show for its past 18 years and 22 seasons. And, after five seasons as the host of Late Night, Jimmy Fallon gained the coveted spot as the new host of The Tonight Show, no doubt to become another legendary name in the long line of Tonight Show greats. March welcomed Seth Meyers, a face most familiarized as the host of the Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live, as the new Late Night host, and many viewers believe only time will tell how the talk show host rookie will shape Late Night into his very own.
