AFF Films to Look Out For With People of Color

Austin Film Festival is one of the most world-renowned film festivals local to the area, especially for burgeoning writers and filmmakers. However, like many film festivals, they tend to be overwhelmingly white in the movies chosen to premiere. For people of color looking to diversify their film-viewing palette, ORANGE has compiled a list of seven films to watch this festival season.

ORANGE Review: “The Humbling”

"The Humbling" was everything I expected and more. Al Pacino (cast as the movie's protagonist, Simon Axler) has never been more captivating — or should I say, convincing (movie joke)? Originally written as a novel by Philip Roth, the screenplay was adapted by Buck Henry and Michal Zebede. Present at the screening of the film Thursday night at the Austin Film Festival at the Paramount Theater, Zebede told the audience that "The Humbling" had been a passion project for Pacino, so he had already been cast to play the part. She added that she took inspiration from Pacino’s life and wrote it into the character.

Former UT Student Debuts Comedic Horror Film At AFF

The morning after his first short film was screened at the Austin Film Festival, a showcase for both famous and indie filmmakers, Shane Ware is alert and eager to speak about his recent successes. One of the youngest short-filmmakers presented at the film fest this year, the recent University of Texas at Austin radio-television-film graduate says he is honored to be part of a group of such talented people.
