Jukely comes to Austin

March 25, 2015

As broke college students, it seems there are never enough funds for the endless concerts we want to attend in Austin. But for those who live for shows and have a barren bank account to prove it, there may be hope for your wallet.

Vampires of ATX

March 11, 2015

When you first hear the word vampire, the chilling Count Dracula may appear in your head. Or perhaps you are thinking of a more sensitive or lustful vampire like those of “Twilight” and “True Blood.” But vampires are more than characters in a book or on screen. Little do many know that vampires roam the streets of Austin, living normal lives, working normal jobs and raising families.

December 1, 2014

With the music scene in Austin growing exponentially, there is a new band rising to the top almost every month. To make a mark in the overflow of talent, a group has to be capable of bringing a new dynamic to the table. Combining the smooth sound of jazz with the head-nodding rhythms of hip-hop, MODAL is a potential poster-child for innovative music in the “Live Music Capital of the World.”

Christmas: The War On Thanksgiving

December 1, 2014

As soon as Halloween turns its back, Christmas strikes. Retailers replace the skeletons with wreaths and the orange and black banners with red and green ones. On the radio, “Jingle Bell Rock” and “White Christmas” play, while families roast marshmallows and drink skinny eggnog lattes. Somewhere, somehow, in this turning of the commercialized seasons, Thanksgiving is forgotten.

Why You Should Try Going Somewhere Alone

December 1, 2014

After stumbling upon an art pop-up playing FKA Twigs’ videos in New York city this past August, I quickly declared my passionate love for the British talent. I don’t really know how to accurately underscore FKA Twigs’ value. She’s smart, her voice is the human version of church chimes, and she dances like a water bender. Also, her hair is like something you would see out of a Star Wars movie — in a good way.

Is American Horror Story One Big Conspiracy?

December 1, 2014

As if giving Evan Peters giant, meaty lobster claw hands wasn’t enough, the creator of FX-hit “American Horror Story” sent the show’s fans into panic mode when he announced that all four seasons were going to be, somehow, connected. Being a #TeamTate fangirl (He was just misunderstood, not a psychopath murderer rapist weirdo) with an encyclopedic knowledge of the show’s previous seasons, I decided to come up with a few conspiracy theories of my own.

Student-Run Radio KVRX Celebrates 20 Years With Support From Alumni

November 24, 2014

Since 1994, local radio station KVRX has played local artists for college students’ listening pleasure.
