Our Guests:
Catherine Alvardo is a recent UT journalism graduate and former social media director of ORANGE Magazine. She developed a passion for storytelling and communication through social media in college, and now does both of those things professionally. In her free time, Catherine enjoys binge-watching her favorite TV shows, scrolling her Twitter feed and trying to figure out how to adult.
Becca Chavoya, co-founder of Orange Magazine, graduated from the UT J-School in May 2014, and has since begun a career as a writer for Main Street Hub, a social media marketing startup here in Austin. When she’s not writing content for kick-ass local businesses around the country, she’s working as a freelance lettering artist or training for her first marathon in January. She’s busy to say the least, but she still manages to fit in cat naps with her actual cat, Milo, or spend her Saturday nights at her favorite beer joints around the city.
Darice Chavira is a recent graduate from the University of Texas at Austin. After serving as ORANGE’s photo director since her sophomore year and earning a degree in journalism, Darice currently works at Texas Monthly as a member of their Custom Publishing team. When she’s not in the office, Darice loves shopping at Anthropologie, chowing down on pizza and liking endless amounts of dog pictures on Instagram.
From PR copywriting to copy editing to digital journalism, Jane Claire Hervey can string together a damn good sentence. She currently ranks in the Top One Percent for BuzzFeed’s contributors, and her BuzzFeed account—essentially a running blog of her own satire and online news interests—has amassed millions of views. She has worked with multiple online and print outlets, including Reader’s Digest, The WILD, and Austin Monthly magazines. Hervey’s relentless pursuit of anything and everything wordy shaped the development of her creative consultation career. As an expert in branding and creative engagement, she now works with the social media platform, Texts From Last Night, to create content and products that market to the 8 million members of their audience.
