As college students, sushi is not exactly the most affordable food to eat everyday and can sometimes become a delicacy.

Here are the best sushi places around Austin, and somewhat near the University of Texas at Austin, that will satisfy your stomach and your wallet.
Xian Fresh
With a variety of delicious and diverse menu options, such as their hand-pulled noodles, or their pork buns, this restaurant has got it all. But their rolls are not something you’ll want to pass up on, especially with the discounts they offer. Whether it’s the lunch special, or the happy hour times on Monday through Friday and all-day Sunday, the sushi deals are unbeatable. They have pretty basic rolls but with a large variety, so everyone who goes should find something they like. A personal recommendation is the Shrimp Tempura roll during happy hour.
Raku
For sushi cravings while you’re near campus, skip the Jester rolls and go to Raku instead. They have rolls starting at four dollars, and you can easily get a meal in with leftovers for under ten dollars. You can find the typical rolls, such as the Avocado or Spicy Tuna, for a great price, and pair it with two dollar miso soup for a great meal. Their lunch deals feature multiple rolls for under $15 to eat. If you find yourself searching for sushi at UT, Raku is a great stop to make.
Ra
Located downtown, Ra has a creative atmosphere with even more creative rolls. With foods including mangoes, kiwi wasabi sauces, sirloin strips and more, Ra has some life-changing sushi rolls that are unforgettable. While the best rolls cost a decent amount of money, you can easily be satisfied during their happy hour with cheap rolls ranging from $3 to $7, and great drinks.
Sushi Junai
All you can eat sushi? For under $30? ORANGE Magazine is there and you should be too. Sushi Junai serves almost every standard roll found at normal sushi restaurants, with a few twists, and it is all you can eat. If you got yourself an appetite, and some money to spare, you’ve got to head over with some stretchy pants and a group of friends to try this place out.
Lucky Robot
With interesting combinations, vegan options and a variety of appetizers, Lucky Robot has got it all. From rolls that include pork belly, to the Farmbot roll with quinoa for vegans, this restaurant provides something for everyone with unique twists. Throw in their happy hour menu on Monday through Friday to save you some change, and there’s no excuse for you not to come try out their rolls.

Sushi Oishi Japanese Austin was the best budget sushi on campus. With rolls less than 3$ during happy hour and good quality as well. Shame they were kicked out of Dobie for the target.
Sushi Nichi is right next to Rakus with even better price, albeit slightly inconstant quality (some days its super fresh, other days it’s not as fresh)
Sushi Bang Bang is cheaper and better service than sushi junai (although its very small).
RA is an upper class sushi place, the cheap sushi they serve is very small.
Lucky Robot is perhaps the best in terms of atmosphere. The lighting and the decorations are perfect.
