Golden Globes

Best Dressed: Billy Porter

There is no argument to be made here, Billy Porter was the star of every red carpet this season. This carefully crafted and detail-oriented Randi Rahm design bloomed with hundreds of embroidered flowers adorning his suit, tulle top and satin fuschia-lined cape. Everyone say it with me, “Thank you, Billy Porter.”

Worst Dressed: Caitriona Balfe

There’s so much about this Moschino dress that upsets me. The first time I saw it, I knew in my bones that it was the worst look of the night. Caltriona Balfe’s ensemble is a bad attempt at the very specific subset of ‘90s fashion that was obsessed with velvet. Her pinned-back bob, unfortunate bodice rosette, the less-than-flattering poofed out velvet skirt and those practical pointed-toe heels are the fashion details that have haunted me every night since the Globes.

SAG Awards

Best Dressed: Michelle Yeoh

Michelle Yeoh took her prestigious character from the hit movie “Crazy Rich Asians” to the red carpet by giving us this high fashion look. Yeoh was one of the few actors that took couture to the carpet by wearing a Elie Saab Couture gown and exquisite jewelry, featuring a luxurious Richard Mille watch. While her ombre brown-orange hairstyle elevates the simplicity of her beige dress, the straight and pulled back look doesn’t distract from the flowing feathers on the bottom of her gown.

Worst Dressed: Kate Nash

Kate Nash certainly turned heads in this ostentatious Manish Arora gown, but not for the right reasons. Between the multi-color stripes lining the dress in all directions, the heart chain detail going across her body and the puffiness of the shoulders, Nash’s look seemed a bit inappropriate for this black-tie affair. To make matters worse, the songstress accessorized with a purse resembling a crystal ball hanging on a chain. However, Nash didn’t entirely miss the mark since pink was in for Awards season this year. The singer-songwriter was feeling herself and quirky dress or not, that has to count for something.

Best Dressed: Leon Bridges

In this yellow suit by Bode, Leon Bridges is covered in hand-drawn art that paid tribute to his mom and Texas .The embellishments included his mother’s name, a portrait of a cowgirl and his album art. The suit might have been good luck, since Bridges won the grammy for Best R&B Album later that night.

Worst Dressed: Andra Day

I love a throwback look as much as the next person, but this custom Cheng-Huai Chuang makes Andra Day look like she stepped straight out of the ‘60s in the worst way. The monochrome, Barney-esque purple and the feathers around the hemline make the look a bit costume-y, especially with that Party City wig.

Best Dressed: Gemma Chan

The “Crazy Rich Asians” star Gemma Chan showed us how to pull off a fuchsia gown at the Oscars. She did not go unnoticed in this Valentino Couture gown, which she styled with Bulgari jewelry and a Jimmy Choo clutch. Although many stars opted to rock the pink trend at this year’s red carpet, there was something unique about Chan’s gown, it had pockets!

Worst Dressed: Sarah Paulson

You’re not alone if you mistook Sarah Paulson at the 2019 Oscars for a regrettable Bed Bath & Beyond bed comforter. The Brandon Maxwell gown had so much potential, but the unfortunate neckline swallowed her whole. She seems to be caged in her own bird box. Fortunately, Paulson had her hair slicked back in a low bun, which slightly brought the look back to Earth. I think we can all agree that this dress could have its own season of “American Horror Story.”
